Christmas Dinner

Our Frost Christmas celebrations were a little different this year - not our traditional smorgasbord on Christmas eve and opening presents after dinner and then going to Rock Island to be with Paul's family on Christmas Day.  Instead we had a delightful two days at home enjoying the time off and being together when we could.  John and Sasha invited Paul and I for breakfast in Chinatown on Christmas eve day for dim sum.  Sasha was great at ordering for us all with some help from the rest of us.  There was plenty of food and it was good.  Lots of people out eating meals as families.  Since John and Sasha went to her family's house for dinner on Christmas Eve this was a good way to see them.  Kristin and Jason came late afternoon.  I went to the family worship service at church and then Paul and I and Kristin and Jason went to Papaspiros (a Greek restaurant in Oak Park) for dinner.  It was rather crowded when we got there but we had reservations and were seated right away.  The restaurant, unfortunately, had run out of some of their meals, but they were gracious and gave us free soup and an appetizer.  Even though we could not order what we might have ordered, the food was still good.  Went back to church at 10pm for the 11o'clock service (choir had to get there early) and Paul, Kristin and Jason came to that service.  We enjoyed gluhwein and cookies after worship.

Kristin and Jason spent the morning with his parents and Kristin actually worked for a few hours because she could get overtime pay.  We decided to do our Christmas smorgasbord for dinner since that is when everyone could be here together.  We decided to try something new (at least for us) at our smorgasbord this year - brown beans - which we soaked and then cooked for the three hour time period.  Also had rice pudding along with meatballs, korv, lingonberries, jello, mashed potatoes, limpa,  and cardamom bread.  It was a good meal and we were glad that all 6 of us could be together.  Cookies and coffee for dessert.  Presents were opened and everyone enjoyed their gifts.

Merry Christmas to all!
