2016 - Alaska Vacation Take a look at some of the photos I took on our trip.  Just click the above link. We had a great time - the weather cooperated and we were able to do a lot of different things.  Cruising is certainly a great way to vacation.   We traveled with Sue and Gerry Olson which added to the fun. We spent a couple of days in Vancouver, British Columbia prior to leaving on our cruise.  We spent one day touring the city, using a hop on hop off bus system to get around.  The second day we went up to Whistler, the site of the Olympic ski village.   The day was sunny and warm and the views were great. We cruised out of Vancouver on Friday afternoon in clear weather, explored the ship, enjoyed a drink and then dinner in the main dining room.  Listening to a little music, watched a musical review show and wandering around the ship completed the day.  We cruised all day Saturday and docked in Ketchikan on Sunday morning.  W...

January Fun!

A Little January Fun The best way to spend a week in January is not in the Chicago area. We took a 10 day trip south driving to Destin, FL and New Orleans, LA. We drove through Birmingham and Montgomery, AL on the way and  stopped at some of the civil rights memorials. One of the most meaningful one was the National Memorial for Peace and Justice which highlights the many lynchings (4400) that took place in this country between the years of 1877 and 1950. We spent 2 1/2 days in Destin, enjoying walking on the beach and using the pool at the resort as well as trying different restaurants. Drove to New Orleans, stopping in Biloxi, MS to visit the last home of Jefferson Davis. Activities in New Orleans included exploring the French Quarter, taking a 2 hour cruise on the Natchez steam boat, and sipping coffee and eating beignets at Cafe Du Mond.   The next day we visited a few plantations along Plantation Row - the Whitney Planta...

Welcome 2021!

Never so happy as to see the end of a year. 2020 held a lot of promise in the beginning. There were many good things that we had planned. Many of them happened under completely different circumstances but happily the best of what was to be in 2020 was there. I so look forward to being able to spend more time with family this year, hoping without masks. I want to be able to celebrate happy things - Kristin and Scott's wedding celebration as they had originally planned, the engagement of my niece, Anna, to Jim. I want to be able to spend more time with my granddaughter, Xochitl, at the zoo or the park or anywhere we might be able to go. Now that we are both retired, we both want to be able to travel, to explore old and new places. We want to see the United States. We want to be able to visit with people who live far away from us. We want to be able to eat out - breakfast, lunch or dinner - when we feel like it.  Here's to the new year! Let's hope it is better than the last on...
