Last Part of Summer

Vacation has come and gone.  I have two weeks and one day before the first day of school - so do I try to get done everything I thought I would do over the summer that I haven't quite gotten to - or should I continue to do what I have been doing - reading, relaxing, and doing minor things around the house.  Well, I think I will continue as I have been - reading books and doing some things around the house

We have done some fun things as well.  My women's group got together with our spouses on a Saturday evening for a very relaxing dinner.  We had the food catered - it was very good - that way we could all enjoy the evening.  It was a pleasant night to sit outside for food and conversation.  The next day, Sunday, Paul and I had Nancy and Bill and Laurie over for dinner.  Again, it was a lovely day to sit outside and enjoy the company.  We did barbecue and had a few salads for sides.

I have been to school twice to see what they are doing in the library for the big PTO sponsored re-do.  So far things are looking good - it will definitely be a different color scheme - gone are the yellow and orange cabinets - hello - more neutral colors and fabric upholstered furniture.  Many bookcases have been moved - so the layout looks different as well.

We did enjoy our vacation to Cape Cod and Quebec.  We had one beach day on the Cape - otherwise we did some clothes shopping which we like to do (take advantage of sales and no sales tax).   Both Paul and I  brought home many additions to our wardrobes.  We drove to Quebec on Sunday with Mom - the vacation resort we stayed at was about 35 minutes out side of the city of Quebec - an easy drive.  We drove east up the St. Lawrence River one day - had lunch in a small town along the way.  We visited Mount Morency Falls and the Ile d'Orleans another day.  Took the cable car to the top of the falls and walked the bridge over the falls.  Drove around the island and found another nice place to have lunch.  On two different days we went into Old Quebec City and walked around, visited the Plains of Abraham and found interesting places to eat.  We also drove to Jacques Cartier National Park and drove in there a ways - visiting an Native American museum type site on the way.  It was a very interesting week and fun and we all had a good time.

We went to Germanfest the last weekend in July in Milwaukee which has kind of become an annual tradition.  We also went to Drury Lane to see The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee which we both enjoyed.

So, work will be upon me soon.  I am going to try and fit in a few more fun things and hopefully get Paul to take a day off work while I am still at home.  I'm sure we could figure out something fun to do.
